About Madewell

The Mainstay Composite Liner was originally developed by United States Steel (USS) Corporation as a process for lining uncured reinforced concrete pipe. The USS Chemicals division performed the first commercial application of Mainstay in 1962. Several million square feet of Mainstay were applied by U.S. Steel crews over the following nine years. In 1971, U.S. Steel decided to divest its coatings interests, including Mainstay. Madewell Products Corporation was established soon thereafter to manufacture Mainstay products. Over the last 50 years, Mainstay brand products have been used to line concrete surfaces in multiple markets throughout the U.S. and abroad. Today, Madewell Products manufactures a variety of cementitious and epoxy products. Madewell also manufactures specialized application equipment for use with these materials. Madewell’s headquarters is located in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Mainstay® ML-72

The Mainstay® Composite Liner is a manhole rehabilitation system consisting of a high strength restoration mortar (typically Mainstay ML-72) and an epoxy corrosion barrier coating (typically Mainstay DS-5) that cure simultaneously to repair and protect brick and concrete manholes, lift stations, wet wells, and other sanitary sewer structures. The mortar is first shot onto a new or deteriorated substrate, and an epoxy topcoat is then immediately applied while the mortar is still soft. The concurrent application of these materials creates a monolithic surface that cures into a strong, highly corrosion resistant, and continuous manhole lining, free of pinholes, holidays, and voids. The mortar and topcoat are tightly bonded not only to the substrate but also to each other.

Brick and concrete manholes can often be restored without the use of an epoxy corrosion barrier coating. Mainstay® calcium aluminate cement mortars are designed to withstand high levels of hydrogen sulfide and prevent future attack in corroded brick and concrete structures.

Mainstay® ML-72HP mortar is a high-build, high-strength, sprayable microsilica restoration mortar that can be centrifugally applied to pipes and culverts in need of structural repair.

Mainstay® GeoSpin® is the rehab industry’s cutting edge geopolymer repair mortar. Centrifugally applied at a typical thickness of one inch, this high strength, eco-friendly geopolymer mortar repairs drainage pipes that suffer from corrosion damage.
