Home of the Arizona Cardinals, with over 250,000 residents, Glendale, AZ is the fifth largest city in the Valley of the Sun. Their wastewater collections systems consist of 3 wastewater treatments plants that reuses water for golf and recreational facilities, as well as cooling water for the Palo Verde Nuclear Power Plant. Their Arrowhead Wastewater Treatment Plant conveys the Waste Activated Sludge (WAS) from the facility to a discharge manhole 3-miles from the plant. This 6-inch WAS line was constructed with 401 lined ductile iron that was corroding at the joints resulting in leaks and failures over the last 10 years. After evaluating a number of technologies for rehabilitation, the City and their design engineer determined that Primus Line was the best option for extending the life of the pipe due to its ability to travel through bends, provide 150psi test pressure, and allow for long distances between access pits. This project was completed over 4 months in 2020/2021 and only required 14 access pits along the alignment. This was the longest force main pipe rehabilitation project utilizing Primus Line when it was completed.

This presentation is to provide knowledge with regards to overland applications of temporary bypass. Whether it be potable water or class 2 and 3 fluids, each project is engineered keeping in mind flow rates, elevations, and deployment methods. A leak-free system that is tied together with monitoring and pig senders and receivers for fast and efficient draining of the fluids. With reels of DN300 up to 690m on 1 reusable reel, Prima Pipes Overland applications save on transportation, decrease installation time, and can be placed in tough terrain. As a rental supplier, QC and QA are extremely important and the level of documentation is unmatched for future reference. All lines are installed and tested at a minimum of 1.25X operating pressure using fresh water before being put into use. The absence of adhesion is a failure. And inadequate surface prep is often the cause. There may be a dozen techniques for testing adhesion, some are destructive, others non-destructive.

In February of 2021, the 20-inch water transmission main underneath the Vermont Street bridge over the Kansas River was immediately taken out of service due to substantial breaks in the line during a freeze-thaw cycle. The City of Lawrence. KS quickly investigated the extent of the damage and root cause to the 1,110 ft pipeline to determine the viability and cost-effectiveness of returning the pipeline back into service and identify one or more solutions. The cities consultants evaluated a wide range of trenchless solutions and recommended the FFRP technology Primus Line as the best option for rehabilitation.

The Klefstad Lift Station in the City of Wood Dale, which processes approximately 120,000 gallons per day (GPD) for its industrial sector, faced significant challenges due to aging infrastructure. Originally built in the 1960s and rebuilt in 2009, the station saw increased daily flows in Spring 2023, reaching 220,000 GPD due to a high-volume industrial user and wet weather. The lift station and force main were in poor condition, with tuberculation buildup in the metallic force main and a failing cementitious liner in the wet well, leading to reduced pump efficiency. Preliminary design investigations confirmed that the existing wet well and force main were adequately sized for the increased flows, prompting the use of trenchless technology for rehabilitation. The solution included flexible fabric reinforced piping (Primus FFRP) and cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) lining for 2,750 feet of ductile iron force main, along with a polyurethane coating in the wet well.
